William Carrington was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He received a BFA from Southwest Texas State in 1989. During his studies he spent two years as an intern in the production department of Texas Monthly Magazine. After graduation William entered into the graphics field for a number of years working as a production artist at Giles Design Studio in San Antonio. He later worked freelance doing production work for various studios around the San Antonio area. William decided to make a career change and returned to school attending Trinity University receiving a MAT, and went on to teach elementary education for 13 years. He then taught elementary art at a private school in San Antonio for another 3 years. After much contemplation and long conversations with his artist wife Caroline Korbell, he decided to pursue sculpture full time.
William is an avid lifelong outdoorsman. Coming from a ranching family he spent a great deal of time hunting and fishing in the Texas Hill Country. Over the years he has gained an in depth knowledge of wildlife and wildlife behavior. In his work he captures the gestural qualities of animals and primarily creates sculpture depicting animals and their natural behavior. William also spent all of these years in the outdoors cleaning and butchering game. He states, “by butchering game one gains a keen knowledge of the animals physical characteristics and muscular structure.” He puts this knowledge into his work striving to depict the animals movement from within. He currently works out of his studio at home in San Antonio, Texas.
